A-Lok is a flexible compression connector used for connecting RCP (Reinforced Concrete Pipe) and RCAP (Reinforced Concrete Arch Pipe) to precast storm structures. For years similar flexible connectors, also known as "boots", were specified by engineers to connect smooth wall PVC sewer pipe to precast concrete manholes. A-Lok has introduced the same concept to precast concrete storm systems with their A-Lok STM storm connectors.
Typically to connect the RCP/RCAP to precast concrete inlets, a contractor must leave the excavated hole around the inlet open and vulnerable to inclimate weather for laborers to grout or pour a collar where the pipe enters or exits the structure. The A-Lok STM storm connector eliminates the need for that additional labor to grout or pour a collar at the connection by providing a rubber compression joint that is cast in the structure by the precast manufacturer, making the connection as easy as joining pipe together. This saves the contractor time, labor costs and allows for immediate backfill once the pipe is entered into the structure.
Because the A-Lok connector is guaranteed to not leak by its manufacturer, the contractor and engineer alike can be sure that the connection is both soil tight and watertight, which is surety not accommodated by making the connection in the field. A-Lok has also developed similar connections for most individually ribbed plastic pipe such as HDPE and Contech.
